Surat City Famous as Diamond City
Surat city is an important industrial hub and commercial centre in the Indian state of Gujarat. The city is previously known as Suryapur. The Surat History also mentioned in Mahabharata and Ramayana, Usually, Lord Krishna stopped in the city on His way from Mathura to Dwaraka. Now the city became a great trading centre on the Indian map. The great China Explorer Hiuen Tsang also described the city as Sowrata and referred the town has a large business arena on the shore of Arabian Sea.
Trading in Surat City
The City Port considered an important Port for the trading, so the European, British and Portuguese waged battles against each other to gain control over the Surat City Port. Most of the European countries arrived in the city for trading their objects. So this place called as India’s western gateway of India. For the glory of Surat city, even in ancient time people from various regions and kingdoms came to the city and flourished their traditions and cultures.
In the modern times, the people are following the old traditions and cultures and the nature of them is soft. People in the city looks very stylish and spirited outlook. Most of the people used the language is Surat Gujrat. The city became world famous for its diamond manufacturing industry. Here diamond industry is the world’s largest diamond manufacturing centre with over 5000 diamond units and the diamond manufacturing units are most advanced factories in the world.

Many people in the city belong to Hindus and other minority communities like Muslims and Christians also inhabiting in Surat. The culture indicates about the harmony among all religious people. Surat History
The presence of the city mentioned in 6th century AD. Western Chalukyas conquered this place in 610 AD and the place under the control of Hindu rulers up to 12th century. During the 12th century, Persian and Arab writers didn’t mention the name of the city. But the Indian scholars in those days called the place as Suryapur and the modern Surat supposed to be built on the site of old Suryapur. But the glory of the Surat City came into existence only after Portuguese raided in this city and settled for trading in the 16th century.
Surat Gujarat After Advent of British
The place became an important trading to European countries up to 18th century. The city burned in 1512 and rebuilt in 1546 A.D. In 1559 A.D. the great Mughal emperor Akbar marched on the city, however in 1572 A.D. Mirza the great rebellion against Akbar occupied the city. Finally, the city came under the control of Mughal Emperor. During the region of Mughal rulers, the city played the peace and prosperity among the people.
