The great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built many magnificent monuments and brought glory in culture and tradition to Mughal Dynasty. He also made this Mosque. During his rule, the Mosque was the central Mosque of Old Delhi. Shah Jahan wanted to build a large and magnificent mosque for the followers of Islam. So he completed this Mosque in 1656 AD. The Jama Mosque is the largest and most well-known in India. About 5000 workers worked to build this magnificent construction. Shah Jahan spares one million rupees for the construction in those days. Jama Masjid is also famous as a Friday congregational mosque because many Muslim devotees visit to offer Namaz to Allah. These offering Namaz are called Yaum al-jum a. So this Masjid-i-Jahan Numa is popularly called Jama Masjid.

The Architecture of Jama Masjid:

Mughals build this architecture with a tremendous outlook. The architects used both Hindu and Mughal styles of architecture. The Mughals used minerals in their construction; the Masjid also has two minerals at 40 meters. These minerals are made of pure red and white marble. We can see four towers in the Masjid complex and three fixed entry gates to allow devotees and visitors into Namaz Place.

There is a uniqueness in the construction that the Jama Masjid is built on higher ground than other buildings. Shah Jahan’s son also made the same style as another Lahore mosque. The bed and Pillars are all constructed with strong Red stones, so Jama Masjid has stood for many years. It is the most important spiritual place in India.
