Junagarh Fort History:

Junagarh Fort is one of the famous monuments in India. It is located in Bikaner, Rajasthan State. The Fort stands still despite successive wars and invasions. The structure is also one of the massive monumental structures in North India. Most forts were constructed on hilltops, but Junagarh Fort was not built on Hilltop and was bounded by the Aravalli Mountain Range.

Junagarh Fort Construction:

In 1408 AD Rao Bikaji founded the city of Bikaner and constructed a small fortress in the Rati Ghetto area. Later the sixth ruler of Bikaner, Raja Rai Singh Ji, ordered his Prime Minister Karan Chand to build a new Fort called Chintamani. Then the family members of Raja Rai Singh lived under his Prime Minister Karan Chand’s supervision from 1589 AD to 1593 AD. Later the Chintamani Fort came to know as Junagarh Fort, Which means ‘Old Fort’. The Bikaner rulers were the high-ranked “mansabdars’ or Governors in the court of the Mughal Emperor. That Raja Rai Singh was also one of the generals of Mughal Emperor Akbar.

Junagarh Fort Architecture:

The Jugarh Fort was built with excellent Architecture. The Fort extends to an area of 5.28 hectares, and the quadrangular structure has a total peripheral length of 986 meters. The Fort’s walls were Fortt extremely large, 14.5 feet height and 40 feet wide, and a deep moat surrounded the fortress. Thirty-seven bastions were arranged at the seven gates of the Fort. Fort arrangement makes the Fort Fort from the enemies.

The Junagarh Fort usually is a fort. It has numerous palaces and pavilions. We can see here many Hindu and Jain temples. Due to these temples, the rulers of Bikaner maintained religious tolerance. The temples are constructed totally with sandstone and marble. The stone carvings are made of red and golden sandstone—the interior of the palaces and Fort Forts use the rich and brilliant traditional Rajasthani style. Tourists can enjoy looking at this magnificent construction. The entire structure of the fort Fort was made in a Rajasthani manner and influenced by Mughal and British styles. During Maharaja Ganga Singh’s period, the renovation works were done in a semi-western way. So the Fort is the composition of architectural culture with gates, temples, and palaces.
In the Fort, Fort can see many temples. Har Mandir was an essential place for celebrations of all Royal weddings, Births, and Festivals. During the Dussehra celebrations, the Royal families worshipped weapons and horses in the temple.
