The great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built many magnificent monuments and brought glory in culture and tradition to Mughal Dynasty. He also made the Jama Mosque. The present Mosque became the central Mosque of Old Delhi during his period. Shah Jahan wants to build an enormous, magnificent, well-known Mosque in India. About 5000 workers worked to complete this Mosque. Shah Jahan spares one million rupees for constructing this massive Mosque in those days. The Masjid is also famous as a Friday congregational mosque because many Muslim devotees visit mosques to offer Namaz. These offering Namaz are called Yaum al-juma. So this Masjid-i-Jahan Numa is popularly called Jama Masjid.

The architecture of Jama Masjid:

Mughals built this architecture with a tremendous outlook. The architects used both Hindu and Mughal styles of architecture. The Mughals used minerals in their constructions. Jama Masjid also has two minerals at a height of 40 meters. These minerals are made of pure red and white marble. There are four towers in the Masjid complex and three entry gates to enter Mosque. There is the uniqueness of the Mosque that the Mosque is built on higher ground compared with other constructions around it. Shah Jahan’s son made the same style as another mosque in Lahore. The earth and the pillars are all constructed with strong Red stones, so Masjid has stood for hundreds of years. The Mosque is a great spiritual place in Old Delhi.
