Most of us think that tourist destinations in India for foreign travellers are Goa, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi. But surprisingly, Tamil Nadu is the most popular destination for foreign travellers. We never think it so, but the calculations are like that. According to the Ministry of Tourism data published recently, Tamil Nadu is the best destination for foreign tourists. Almost 20 per cent of foreign tourists visited Tamil Nadu in 2015. In 2015 23 million foreign visitors saw India 2015. Among them, 20 per cent visited Tamil Nadu.

Here is the data on how many people visited the top ten states in India:

Tamil Nadu 4.68 million, Maharashtra 4.41 million, Uttar Pradesh 3.1 million. Delhi 2.38 million, West Bengal 1.49 million, Rajasthan 1.48 million, Kerala 0.98 million, Bihar 0.92 million, Karnataka 0.64 million and Goa 0.54 million. The top 10 states occupied 88.4 per cent of the total foreign tourist visits. Many famous cities are situated in these states, so foreign tourists generally visit these cities and surrounding tourist places.

The Favourite Tourist Destinations: 

The emerging states in attracting states are Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. These two states are becoming popular, and foreign visits are steadily increasing their popularity across the World. Currently, the favour of Andhra Pradesh has risen to 70.8 per cent and 72.6 per cent in Jharkhand.
The other fast-growing tourist destinations are Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana and Haryana. Here the government is taking precautions and travelling facilities for foreign tourists, so these efforts are causing to increase in the growth of foreign visits.

Decline Tourist States: 

Due to the agitations in Kashmir, the number of foreign visitors is slowly decreasing to visit Kashmir. The total strength of foreign visits went down to 32 per cent, and in 2015, only 58,568 foreign tourists visited this state. The other big losers are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Sikkim. The North Eastern states are slowly declining the number of visitors.
