Assamese Language An Unique Language:

The Assamese language is famous in the Eastern States—the people living along the Brahmaputra Valley. So the tongue has the same similarity to Bengali. Especially grammar is difficult to understand by non-Assamese Speakers.

Assamese Literature:

Hema Saraswati was probably the oldest Assamese writer. He wrote the famous epic story of Hindu Prahlada Charita in the late 13th century AD. Later, another famous Assamese poet, Madhava Kandali, wrote a vernacular Ramayana in the 15th century. Pilambara and Manakara were also famous Assamese poets. They wrote Giti Ramayana poems and songs which narrate the characters in Indian Mythologies and epics.

The history of Assam is very ancient. Assam’s account is found in Buddhist literature, Tantric literature, Assamese folklore and Vedic literature. However, the presence of Assam was narrated in our epics and legendary religious stories. In very early times, the Aryans entered Assam and lived as Priests and Warriors. Some places of Assam have also been mentioned in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, and some areas have been identified by our archaeologists recently—Mahiranga Danava, the first ruler of Assam, belonged to the Davana dynasty. Later kin,g Sambarsur, Hatakasur and Ratnasur ruled Assam. After the decline of the Danava Dynasty, Ghatakasur, the ruler of the Kiratas, ruled Assam; hence he established Progjyotishpur ( the present Guwahati ) as his capital and ruled Assam. During his region, numerous Brahmans settled in the capital. In Mahabharata, Narakasura also belonged to Assam and was later killed at Lord Krishna’s hands.

Assam Mythological Stories:

In Assam Mythological stories, Lord Krishna frequently appears during the story narration. Lord Krishna fought against Kundli ( Now Sedia ) ruler Bhismaka. Lord Krishna defeated Bhismaka and married his daughter Rukmini like this; Assam played a crucial role in Hindu mythologies.
Assam state is mixed with many societies. Here the people communicate with each other in 45 different languages. Here Sino-Tibetan, Austroasiatic and Indo-European speeches played a significant role in communicating with each other.
