Muslim Marriage Ceremony

Muslim Marriage is quite different to compare with other marriage rituals. Marriage in Islam is also called ‘Nikah’ in Urdu. Everyone in the Muslim community should follow ‘Nikah’ in Islam. The significance of a Muslim Wedding is an emphasis on the union of two souls. There are also some pre-wedding rituals. On the Marriage day, the couple follows the Pre-rituals and post-wedding traditions. These rituals are followed to complete the ceremony of the Marriage.

The Muslim Marriage celebrates in the presence of the guardians of the Bride and groom. The relatives and friends are also present as witnesses to the Marriage. Nikahnaama means the agreement between the Muslim Bride and the groom. It is called Ijab-O-Qubul. The contract of Marriage is recorded as for the Islam tradition and culture. The Quazi, the Muslim cleric, oversees the marriage rituals. At the time of the Muslim wedding, the groom must pay Mehr, which means a certain amount of money to the groom.

The wedding celebrates in the presence of the Guardians of the couple and creates a bond between the couple, and the witnesses are the relatives. The documentation of the Marriage and the presence of witnesses are the most important during the marriage rituals.

Muslim Wedding Celebrations

Istikhara:

This is the first ritual in Muslim Marriages and is called Istikhara. The religious head agrees to perform the wedding by receiving the blessings of Allah.

Imam-Zamin:

Imam-Zamin is the second ritual. The groom’s mother took sweets and Imam-Zamin, a silver or gold coin and went to the Bride’s home. There she visited the Muslim Bride ties, the silver coin wrapped in a silken cloth to the upper portion of the girl’s hand. This is a central ritual in Muslim weddings and is called Imam-Zamin.

Magni:

By following the ritual of Magni, all Bride’s family members visit the Bride’s house with sweets and gifts to celebrate some joyful events. This is called Magni.

Mehndi:

Nowadays, the Mehndi ritual is celebrated on a grand scale during Muslim Marriage. The Bride’s family and relatives sing and dance at the Bride’s house. During the enjoyment, the hands and feet of the Bride are adorned with henna designs.

Sanchez:

In this ritual, the groom’s family sends the clothes and jewellery to the Bride to wear during Nikah’s time.

Traditions of the Marriage in Islam

On the Muslim wedding day, the groom starts at the Bride’s house by mounting the horse, his face covered with flowers, and the relatives and friends follow him. This ceremony is called Baraat. When the Baarat reached the Bride’s house, the family members of the Bride welcomed the groom and remaining followed him. Then the Bride’s brothers presented to groom with a glass of sherbet, and Soon Nikah started.

Two religious heads are present at the Nikha place current rent, each one to the Bride and groom. The amount of Mehar presented to the Bride’s family members. After this, Maulavi asks Muslim Bride three times about her opinion of accepting him as her husband; later, he asks the groom whether he agrees with the Bride as his wife. After their acceptance, the couple signed in the Nikeahnama. After all, the family members blessed the couple with a prosperous married life. After dinner, the couple is seated face to face and covers their heads with dupattas. Later the couple was allowed to see each other for the first time. This is called as AarsiMushaf.

Rukhsat:

After the Marriage in Islam, the Bride farewells her parents with a sorrowful mind when she reaches the groom’s house; before entering the house, the groom’s mother holds the Holy Quran over the Bride’s head and wishes her to enter the house. Then she enters the house, and the groom’s family members follow the ritual of Valimah, which is arranging the feast for the relatives and friends of the groom’s family.
