Tulsidas Biography

Tulsidas was born at Rajapur on the banks of the Yamuna river on the 7th day of the month of Shraavana in the bright half of the lunar. His father’s name was Hulsi, and his mother was Atmaram Dubey. Historians say he was born in 1554 or 1532 AD and lived for around 126 years. According to the legend, Goswami Tulsidas stayed 12 months with the mother’smother’shen he was born; he seemed a five-year-old boy and had all 32 teeth. As soon as he was born, he started pronouncing the word Rama, So his parents named him Rambola. Unfortunately, his father died only four days after the chichild’srth. The mother took him to Haripur, the hometown of Atmaram Dubey. She also died when Goswami Tulsidas was only five years; the tragedy made him begging for alms.

At the age of 7, he started learning at Ayodhya and went to the sacred city Varanasi at the age of 15 years. Shesha Sanatana was his Guru and learned their Sanskrit grammar, philosophy, Hindu holy books, four Vedas and six Vedangas. After their studies took permission from his Guru and went back to his Birthplace, Chitrakuta; later, he started narrating Lord Rama’s story from Epic Ramayana.

Marriage Life

Saint Tulsidas married Ratnavali on the 13th day of the Jyeshta month in 1583 AD. They were blessed with a son named Tarak, unfortunately, the boy died in the toddler stage. There was also a story about the renunciation of Tulsidas; one day, he went to the Hanuman temple to worship Hanuman. In the meantime, his wife also went to his father’s house. When Tulsidas returned, home didn’t find her and swam along the Yamuna river to meet her. This upset Ratnavali, who remarked to devote yourself profoundly to God. Then he left Ratnavali, went to Pray, renounced the Grihastha li,fe and became a Sadhu.

After the renunciation, he spent most of his time at Prayag, Ayodhya and Varanasi. I travelled across India and met Saints and Sadhus to learn the concept of life. On the journey, I studied different people and different ideologies. Tulsidas visited Manasarovar lake and saw Kakabhushundi, the crow, narrator in the Ramcharitmanas.

Saint Tulsidas Visiting a Ghost

One day he visited the woods for morning ablutions with a water pot. In return, he offers the remaining water to a particular tree. The water quenched the thirst of a Ghost. Then the Ghost appeared to Tulsidas and offered him a boon. Then he wanted to see Lord Rama with his own eyes. Then the Ghost said that every day, Hanuman comes to you to listen to the story of Lord Rama in the mean attire of a leper. So you reveal your desire before Hanuman; he could show you how to see Lord Rama.

Tulsidas Ramcharitmanas

That evening the saint noticed an old leper sitting far from the gathering. After the narration of the Katha, he followed the leper to the woods. The poet fell at the leper’s feet in the middle anleper’s for blessings. Then Hanuman came into the natural fo, blessed po, et an,d granted a boon. Then the saint wanted Hanuman to see Lord Rama with his own eyes. In 1631 AD, he started to write the Ramcharitmanas in Ayodhya. By the end of 1633 AD, he completed Ramcharitmanas. Later came to Varanasi and narrated the epic Ramcharitmanas to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

He lived 126 years and died at the Assi Ghat on the bank of the river Ganga in July or August 1680 AD. There are also different sources about the exact date of the death.
