Madya Pradesh Festivals

Madya Pradesh is situated in the centre of India and is the place for many fairs and festivals celebrated throughout the year. Here all religious people celebrated the celebrations in their way. Especially the tribal fairs and festivals show us the culture and lifestyle of colourful tribal: Jhabua and Bastar, the well-known areas for tribal festivals. During the celebrations, they enjoyed drinking bouts and conducting cockfights. Here is a list of festivals celebrated with great pomp in Madhya Pradesh……

Pachmarhi Utsav

Pachmarhi Utsav is celebrated in the Pachmarhi area, where we can find beautiful greenery, murmuring waterfalls and famous archaeological regions. Here we can see very ancient houses with admirable construction. This area is blessed by nature, and the Utsav is celebrated for six days with great pomp every year. The celebrations started on 25 December and ended after the New Year celebrations. The art of local artisans is famous, and the Utsav hosts various exhibitions with crafts and local fabric. Cultural activities are also performed for visitors. The fair is a feast of enjoyment and passion. The folk culture exhibits through local dancers. Many art and craft works are shown here from all parts of India.

Navratri

The festival falls in September or October every year. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival is held in the Lunar month of Ashwin. Navratri means nine nights; during these nine days, the devotees worshipped Shakti in nine different forms, and on the 10th day, they celebrated Dussehra. The devotees from all over India take a bath in the Shipra River during the Navratri. The festival is dedicated to the Goddess Durga and worships Her in nine different forms. During the festival celebrations, the dancers perform the Garba Ras dance, a significant attraction of Navratri. Every household prepares various dishes and sweets to distribute to the neighbours and relatives.

Khajuraho Dance Festival

Khajuraho is a famous UNESCO site; here, the temples are rich cultured and sculptures. Once you heard of Khajuraho, the well-known ‘Kamasutra’ principles appeared. Here magnificent sculptures taught us many lessons. With the backdrop of Khajuraho temples, many renowned traditional dancers perform their skills before the festival visitors. So this festival became very famous as Khajuraho Dance Festival. The temples are the places for the culture and heritage of Inda, so through the dances, the artists show the pride of India to the rest of the world with their, classical and traditional dances.

Lokrang Samaroh Bhopal

This Lokrang Samaroh fair is held on Republic day in Bhopal and continues for five days. The festival is celebrated to know the importance of our ancient culture. These festival celebrations started 19 years ago in Bhopal. In India, we can find different cultures and traditions. So during these five days of festivities, speculate every state’s culture and tradition. Sometimes the fair exhibits the cultures of West Indian states like Goa, Rajasthan, Gujarat and sometimes North Indian heritage and culture. The tribal people of India also perform their folk dances and art. The central concept of the festival is to bring awareness of different cultures and erase differences among the Indians.

Malwa Utsav

This fair is celebrated on a grand scale and is one of the spectacular fairs of Madhya Pradesh. During the festival celebrations, the dancers perform the classical dances of India, and the musicians display their skills to show the richness of ancient Indian tradition and culture. Indore and Ujjain are the main centres for the Malwa Utsav, which is celebrated for five days. Many tourists from India and Abroad gathered at these places to watch the magnificent performances by the artists. The classical five elements, dance, drama, music, art and culture, performed at their high peak on this day. The local artesian exhibit the local craft works.

Maha Shiva Ratri

The festival is the significant marriage between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. The festival falls on February 13th or 14th of every year. At the Khajuraho temples, this festival is celebrated on a grand scale. Especially Kandariya Mahadeo temple is the prime place for celebrations. The temple is decorated with colourful lights and flowers. The 25-meter-high Lingam dressed up as a bridegroom with traditional clothes. The priests celebrated the rituals and embrocated the Lingam with the sacred water collected from holy rivers. The Brahmins continue their mantras throughout the night, and at the end, all Brahmins stand up and leave the flower petals over the Lingam. During this time, ring the bell continuously. The ritual is the indication that the marriage is completed.
