Muslim Sculptures Styles With Indian Art

Muslim Sculptures Brief History:

Muslim sculptures are very famous around the world. The Muslim rulers built many monuments, which still represent creativity and architecture. They played an essential role in shining the glory of Indian art and architecture. In ancient times the Muslim invaders from Persia and Afghanistan had plundered the ancient Hindu temples and destroyed the beautiful architecture. Simultaneously the Muslim rulers brought many artists from their countries and encouraged them to construct beautiful monuments and enrich the beauty of Indian art and culture. Especially during the rule of the Mughal Emperor, the emperors built very famous monuments, still attracting tourists worldwide. A few are Tajmahal, Red Fort, Humayun Tomb, Charminar and others.

Indo-Muslim Sculpture Styles:

These famous monuments display the finesse of Indian Muslim sculptures. The grand memorial Tajmahal was constructed with only white marble and is recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Muslim invaders were also art lovers. But with jealousy, they destroyed the beautiful monuments and temples constructed by Indian rulers earlier in Muslim invasions. However, they brought their dogmas and styles of architecture and left their impact on Indian art and sculpture styles. Especially the Persian style of architecture merged with the Native Indian style of architecture and brought a new concept of Indo-Islamic architecture.

Sculptures during the Early period of the Mughals

Initially, Muslim sculptures and architecture differed significantly from the local art style. Later, the Muslim rulers constructed the monuments with the Dome and local style of architecture. This Dome is the main element of religious or secular buildings. However, the Dome structure became essential and magnificent in Indian society.

Pietra Dure Inlay Work of Muslims:

Another essential Muslim Indian sculpture style is the Pietra dure inlay work. This artwork was performed for decorative purposes. In this art form, the artists exquisitely cut the stone in designs and fitted it with inlay works. These stones were very precious and different in size. These decorations were beautiful and had a mix of slender techniques. We can see foliage sculptures and creepers in the Muslim-constructed monuments. Especially the Mughal rulers and Delhi Sultans were patronised in bringing this art form into existence.
The Mughal architectures were a combination of Hindu and Persian styles. In these monuments, the Minarets, tomb sculptures, Jail windows and lofty miners were the symbols of Muslim constructions. Other important Mughal sculptures were calligraphy; we can see this art style on the walls of Mosques and tombs. Here the artists carved quotations from the Holy Quran and Arabesque scriptures.
