Rani Lakshmi Bhai was very courageous and Bravery. Still, Rani Lakshmi Bhai is seated in the hearts of every Indian lover. Without knowing about Rani Lakshmi Bhai, learning about the Indian freedom struggle is incomplete.
Many Indian leaders fought against British rule in India for many years, some showed Bravery and courage, and some sacrificed their lives to get independence. Some turned into extremists, and some followed peace methods. But Jhansi Lakshmi Bhai was different in fighting against British rule.
In India, the first freedom fight was started in 1857, also called Sypai Mutiny. Rani Lakshmi Bhai participated in the first freedom fight, became a leading warrior, and left an indelible mark on the Indian freedom movement. She infused other freedom fighters with her courageous battle in the war against the British. She was successful in playing the role of a woman in Indian society.
Rani Lakshmi Bhai Brief Biography:
Rani Lakshmi Bhai was born on 19, November 1828 in a Brahmin family. Her family had great social respect and had a close relationship with the Maharajas of Jhansi. Manikarnika was her first initial name, but her family members called her Manu. She was trained in horse riding, shooting and fencing at a very early age. She never steps back from doing adventurous tasks. Her formal education was completed in a local school. At the age of 16, she married Raja Gangadhar Rao, who was the then Maharaja of Jhansi. She gave birth to a boy child. Unfortunately, the child not survived for a long time.
Tragic Incidents in Jhansi Lakshmi Bhai Life:
Soon after the death of the child Raja Gangadhar Rao fell sick; in those days, British rulers brought an order that the kings with no theirs those kingdoms merge into British India. So Rani Lakshmi Bhai and her husband Gangadhar Rao decided to adopt Damodar Rao as their son for the next heir to the Jhancy Kingdom. But Gangadhar’s health worsened, and he died on November 21, 1853. Rani Lakshmi Bhai faced two tragic deaths. However, she showed the courage of Rani. Gradually she recovered from the lamentation and took over Jhansi Kingdom’s responsibilities.
War Against British and Death:
Then Lord Dalhousie did not consider Damodar Rao as Jhansi’s legal heir due to the adoption. Then the British officials sent the message of merging Jhansi into British India. Rani Lakshmi Bai refused to surrender to the British and isd was ready to fight with the British in the armed forces. She formed an army of men and women warriors and trained them in Military techniques. She fiercely fought with the British, and finally, the British won in March 1858. Then she moved to Gwalior and met Tantya Tope for support to continue her fight against the British. Her brave fight encouraged many warriors in later years. However, she lost her life in the battle of Gawlior on June 18, 1958.
